The book I am reading, "The boy in the striped pajamas" Is a very good book because it has a valuable message behind it. Not only does it have an important message, it gives a first person perspective of the Holocaust. In my book the son of a Nazi commander, Bruno is forced to move with his family to a house next to a concentration camp. One day Bruno decides to go exploring, and he meets a boy his age, Shumel who lives on the other side of the fence. Bruno doesn't understand the concept of the concentration camp, so he doesn't realize what his friend is going through. Ever since they met, they have talked to each other through the fence. They want to play together, so Bruno dressed up in the same clothes as the people in the camp and dug a hole under the fence so he could climb under. The day they finally are together happens to be the day the Germans put everyone in the camp into a gas chamber and killed them. Bruno's family hadn't realized where he was but when they did, months later, they felt awful. If only Bruno had known what was happening on the other side of the fence, he would have never been killed. "Of course all this happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever happen again. Not in this day and age." Back In 1933 when the Holocaust began, most people were not aware of what was really going on, not even Bruno. The most valuable thing to take away from this book is, a simple misunderstanding can end in a tragedy.

The Holocaust may have happened in 1933, but for people in Syria, it is still happening today. About 8million people in west Syria are under the rule of the Islamic state and they are suffering. Other cities such as Raqqa in Syria, and Mosul in Iraq have also been under Islamic control and been a part of beheadings, execution, and various forms of torture. Just like in the book, "The boy in the striped pajamas", the people held in the camps are being used for forced labor. The people being held in these camps have no freedom, just like in the book. The Holocaust was a terrible time back then, and it's being brought back in to our present day society.
I am reading the book "The boy in the striped pajamas." My book takes place during the Holocaust in Germany. The main character, Bruno is the son of a Nazi commander and is forced to move next to a concentration camp for his father's job. Just like in real life, the families of the Nazi commanders had no choice but to move near these camps and experience the terror of the Holocaust from an outside perspective. "All three camps used prisons for forced labor." (Bloomington 1998) The book also shows signs of terror for the people in the camp, "I'd better help my family settle in or there will be as much trouble for me in here as there is for them out there." Although Bruno and his family don't like their father's job, they were forced to move next to the camp and watch people suffer.
School Beautification
An issue that is starting to gain more attention is school condition. When school condition isn’t well maintained it can interfere with education. This is a problem because students can be distracted by the interior or the exterior of the school. School Beautification can also affect how new students choose a school to attend. If the school looks unprofessional or old, people are less likely to send their children to that particular school. However, if the school looks peaceful and shows signs of honesty and trust, people will have a positive outlook on that school. Currently our school shows examples of school beautification within; a wall mural outside the cafeteria, cleaning the school on a daily basis, and maintaining the football field in a somewhat good way. Some specific items are school needs include; a renovated outdoor basketball court (Repaint Baselines/Sidelines, fix the mascot on the fence, put a school spirited graffiti image on the halfcourt), put a mural on the brick wall near carpool and in the performing arts hallway, and plant a garden in an open grass area. We are interested in this issue for many reasons. The interior/exterior view of a school can give a whole new perspective. More students will be enthusiastic about attending school on a daily basis. We as a group, believe that there are many possible methods to make our school a better place for all grades and individuals. Our community should care about school beautification for many important reasons. If a building is well maintained and looks nice, it is more probable that more students will attend the school. In our specific case, if more kids attend Martin, the businesses around the area such as; Bruegger's Bagels, Chick Fil A, and the Crabtree Valley Mall, are more likely to drag customers from our school. In order to build a proper educative environment it is important to look professional at first sight. Mainly because new 5th graders that are on their way to graduate, and attend our school, care about those small, but major things. School beautification is important because; it encourages rising 6th graders to pick our school, help us to focus in class more, and the school looks more professional from a visual view. School beautification is a big deal in our community. We want our schools to reflect positive things about our community. If our schools aren't clean, it can affect the way people view our school, and kids that go to the school. This has been a problem in many communities around the world for a long time and we need to start respecting and cleaning our schools. We need to show off our communities in a good way by cleaning our schools and making them look more inviting. This is a problem in our community because many kids learn better in a good, and clean environment. If the school looks run down, or not well maintained, kids won't want to go and their parents probably won't want to send them. The way schools look also reflects on what people think about our community, and if people see a school that's not clean or nice looking, it will show them that our community isn't a nice, clean place. Companies that are trying to move employees here won't want to come if the community isn't nice. If we take the time to beautify our schools, more people will want to come to our schools. There is one problem though, budget cuts. We don't have enough money to get all the supplies to beautify our schools. It costs a lot of money to add or clean things in our school. we don't have the time, the money,or even enough people. We need to get the whole school to work together to beautify our schools. We only get certain amounts of money to clean our school. One of the solutions is a School Beautification day. Many other Wake County schools have already implanted a day for School Beautification. Athens Drive has developed a seven year landscaping improvement plan that they have been working on since 2013, along with that, they have also painted a mural with in their school. Lake Wylie Elementary school has also had a garden made (with help from The Mecklenburg Farm Bureau) and they also made a tree planting day were they planted tons of trees around the campus. Gardens are another way to spruce up a school. Gardens make a school look lively and healthy , Other schools have made gardens for teaching classes, for food and for butterfly migration. School gardens can also help with other causes too, the Mitchell Math and Science Academy in South Carolina had harvested 400 sweet potatoes then served to the students at the academy. Walker Jones Education Campus has built a garden for the public to see, making the school look beautiful to the public. There are organizations that encourage schools and give grants to schools for School Beautification. American in Bloom lists plenty of grants for all kinds of gardens, public art, and tree planting. Artspace encourages school public art and NC State encourages school gardens. Overall, it's more of big organizations supporting school beautification and we need to keep supporting school beautification. action plan: click here Personality is the characteristics that make up your personality. I'm the type of person who is outgoing, bright and funny according to people. When I was younger I was called quiet and funny. In conclusion, I think personalities describe your attitude and the way you think.
Animal abuse is a serious issue that needs to be stopped. In North Carolina there are many stray dogs and cats that have been abused, starved and abandoned. As a dog owner, this concerns me because these animals have been hurt for no reason. This effects our community in many ways, a lot of people who see abused animals will ignore them because they don't know anything about the animal or how to help. There are only a few people that will stop and try to help. Helping these animals could be as simple as just calling an organization that could take good care of the animal. If we all try to help, it will make a big difference in our community and inspire others to help out as well.
Homelessness is a big problem for most communities, In North Carolina there are thousands of people living with out a home. They come from all walks of life. They not only struggle with being homeless, but many times they have no food either. Thankfully, we have many people willing to help! There are hundreds of organizations wanting to help homeless people.
Immigrants are people who come to live in a foreign country permanently. Why would they come to the United States? There are multiple reasons. The main reasons many immigrants come to the United States is freedom and safety. They may be coming to gain freedom of religion or they want to gain safety. Safety is a big reason some migrated here. Vandi, a young boy from Sierra Leone, moved to the U.S. because there was a war in his country and he needed to escape. Other reasons can be for employment, health care and education. They will have more opportunities in America. Immigrants can have an overall better life for themselves and their families.
